"Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent!"

The mirror test is an experiment developed in 1970 by psychologist Gordon Gallup Jr. to determine whether an animal possesses the ability to recognize itself in a mirror. It is the primary indicator of self-awareness in non-human animals and marks entrance to the mirror stage by human children in developmental psychology. Animals that pass the mirror test are: Humans older than 18 mo, Chimpanzees, Bonobos, Orangutans, Gorillas, Bottlenose Dolphins, Orcas (Killer Whales), Elephants, and European Magpies. Others showing signs of self-awareness are Pigs, some Gibbons, Rhesus Macaques, Capuchin Monkeys, some Corvids (Crows & Ravens) and Pigeons w/training. (Sorry Kitty!)

How does a construction contractor form a tough Brooklyn neighborhood become an impassioned animal advocate?

"You could perhaps call The Witness a story about a man and a cat. Or maybe you could say it is really a story about advocacy. Or about what lurks behind the doors of the fur industry. All these descriptions fall painfully short of the richness contained in this remarkable documentary."

"For me, The Witness is a mythic story of relationship - about how the honest and simple affection of a tiny cat grows one man's heart so big that it spills its compassion all over the city of New York."

"After seeing The Witness you will never again doubt the magic of relationship - human to human, or human to animal. There is no greater power on earth."
